Hedgehog Happenings – A Note from the Principals

Dear Families,

We had a wonderful first week at Haygood! 🎉 Thank you, parents, for your grace and flexibility as we worked through our very first week on our new campus. Our students spent time learning campus procedures, building connections with their new classmates, and ended the week with the exciting House Reveal on Friday! House shirts will be available for purchase soon, so stay tuned for more details. Be sure to follow our Facebook page for pictures from our Slide Day event and more! We are looking forward to a great second week at Haygood!

Fall at A Glance

Bus Discipline

The Transportation Department follows the attached consequences. When a student receives a bus suspension, parents are notified via email and text. In the case of a bus suspension, parents must call the campus to make a transportation change before 1:30 pm.

Thank you for helping us ensure that our hedgehogs follow bus safety procedures and campus expectations when riding the bus!

Student IDs

Many students received their student IDs on Friday. Any student who has not yet received a student ID will begin to receive them this week. Students may still purchase lunch and ride the bus this week without a student ID.

Replacement costs -
ID - $5
Lanyard - $3
Clear sleeve - $2
*Replacement items can be purchased via cash to the front office.

Severe Weather Days

As we enter the school year, we want to make sure all families are aware of our procedures for days when severe weather is expected. Student safety is always our top priority, and we appreciate your partnership in helping dismissal run smoothly during these times.

If severe weather is anticipated, parents will receive a notification through ParentSquare by 1:00 pm. This message will let you know that our severe weather dismissal plan is in place for that afternoon.

Here’s what you can expect on those days:
  • Car Riders, Bus Riders, and Daycare Riders – Dismissal for these students will remain the same. No changes will be made.
  • Walkers – For safety reasons, all walkers will automatically be switched to car riders. If you prefer a different mode of transportation, any change must be submitted via a phone call to the Front Office before 1:30 pm on that same day.

Thank you for your flexibility and support as we work together to keep students safe and ensure dismissal is as smooth as possible, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Haygood Spirit Wear

Our previous spirit wear order closed on August 8. Those items are now being processed and should arrive at the end of the month for distribution.

We currently do not have any campus-wide spirit wear available for purchase. We will do another round of items in October. Check back here for the link to order!

SPIKES Expectations at Haygood

At Haygood, SPIKES help us set the tone for a safe, kind, and positive school community. Teachers will continue reviewing SPIKES with students so everyone knows what it means to be a true Haygood Hedgehog.

Starting Monday, August 18, students can start earning House Points for showing SPIKES in action—and those points add up to fun prizes and exciting experiences for their House!

When we use the same language at school and at home, we send a strong, united message to our students. We’d love for you to go over SPIKES with your child, talk about what they mean, and help them get excited to start earning points next week!
